Pulp Fiction (Music From The Motion Picture) - 30th Anniversary Cassette
PULP FICTION
30TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION
EXCLUSIVE ORANGE CASSETTE
Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Quentin Tarantinoâs landmark film and soundtrack âPulp Fictionâ. The music featured in the film was the perfect marriage with the smash hit film of 1994. Unusually, no score music was commissioned for Tarantinoâs film, so the album stood as a celebration of the stirring collection of pop, rock, surf music, country, soul and rock ânâ roll that was such a key part of the filmâs success.
The album features a fascinating cross-section of well-known hits, obscure revivals, and remakes, combined in a package that was so popular, it sparked a new surf music craze, helped launch the career of Urge Overkill, brought Dick Dale, Kool & the Gang, Dusty Springfield and others to a new generation.
Dick Daleâs âMisirlou,â with his group the Del-Tones, became the opening music for the film and the album, making the American surf guitar king cooler than heâd been for decades. British instrumental favourites the Tornadoesâ âBustinâ Surfboardsâ and 1960s American surf group the Lively Onesâ âSurf Riderâ kept that flavour going, and the rock ânâ roll element was further enhanced by Ricky Nelsonâs 1958 US top ten hit âLonesome Townâ and Chuck Berryâs âYou Never Can Tell.â
Chicago alternative rock band Urge Overkill were given a huge boost by the inclusion of their cover of one of Neil Diamondâs first hits, the 1967 American top tenner âGirl, Youâll Be A Woman Soon.â Springfieldâs much-admired and soulful âSon of a Preacher Man,â from her classic 1968 album âDusty In Memphis,â was accompanied on the album by another much-travelled soul standard, Al Greenâs âLetâs Stay Together.â
Kool & the Gang, who had much earlier reaped the benefits of having their âOpen Sesameâ on the multi-million-selling âSaturday Night Feverâ soundtrack of 1977, enjoyed another upswing as their first big crossover pop hit of late 1973, âJungle Boogie,â also became part of âPulp Fiction.â
Former Lone Justice frontwoman Maria McKee contributed her own composition âIf Love Is A Red Dress (Hang Me In Rags),â and another of the most striking inclusions was âFlowers On The Wall,â a No. 2 country success in 1966 for the long-running Staunton, Virginia group the Statler Brothers.
The âPulp Fictionâ soundtrack reached No. 21 on the Billboard album chart and went on to estimated album equivalents of more than six million in America alone.
